Google, ever-coy, is intimating that there’ll be a brand new Google app out in the next couple of days. Greg Stein writes in the Google Code blog that his team is “putting the final touches” on a service for “the Open Source community.” Just come to his talk at OSCON (the Open Source CONvention) this Thursday, hint hint! While we wait with bated breath, there are links to attend to:

The Philly.com story It starts with a break-up. The Philadelphia news and classifieds portal is leaving long-time listings partner CareerBuilder.com to launch a co-branded site with job search rival Monster.com.

Writes PaidContent, “Such a move likely wouldn’t have been possible when Philly.com was owned by the same company that had a one-third interest in CareerBuilder,” meaning McClatchy, which recently unloaded a bunch of newspapers and their attendant websites. Why switch? “We chose to partner with Monster.com because we wanted to work with the industry’s premier online job site,” says Brian Tierney, who heads Philly.com’s parent company. ‘Nuff said.

Still the safest way to travel (if they let you on the plane) And you thought speeding ticket quotas were bad. BoingBoing points to a story that says air marshals have to report somebody for suspicious activity every month, or else there’s “no raise, no bonus, no awards and no special assignments.” There’s no trip to Cancun for the poor folks who get shoehorned onto a terrorist watch list, but hey, who’s counting? Oh, right. The marshals are quoted anonymously, and for their part, officials are denying the report.

Monopoly money, now even less real A new version of the old board game classic Monopoly is coming out in Europe with some of the fun removed. The game’s colorful paper money, lovingly stacked, folded, shuffled, thrown in the air and grudgingly given over by generations of players, has been replaced by an electronic card-swiper and Visa-sponsored bank cards. Weep for the future at Ars Technica.
