After months of pre-release viral internet fame, Samuel L. Jackson’s snakes-on-a-plane movie finally slithers/flies into theaters this weekend. Cnet sent a reporter to quiz opening night film-goers about where they first learned about Snakes on a Plane, and she boldly predicts that viral marketing is here to stay. You know what we predict? “Snakes on a *&^#&%$@#*%^$ plane!” Now showing: Links on a Page:
Wargames it ain’t, but… If there’s one thing we learned from The Sims and Second Life, there is no activity a person can do in real life that won’t eventually show up simulated in a computer game environment. Accordingly, we present the first flash-based game that shows you what it’s like to make a website and earn money from contextual ads (without, you know, actually earning said money): The Adsen$e Game. That’s right. All the thrills of pretending to mock up a website, hire a freelance copywriter, and select ad background colors can now be yours. Wondering if the game’s creator has a book to sell you? Play and find out! (via Marketing Shift).
We respectfully decline to make a “beam-me-up-Scotty” joke We know. You thought you’d never see the words “Star Trek” and “Google” in the same sentence, but space pigs are space flying, as Big G’s got a booth set up this weekend at the Las Vegas Star Trek convention. They’ve got demos, they’re answering questions, and they’re accepting job applicants, on the off-chance that, you know, there are any engineers out there with an interest in Star Trek.
Bad bounce for WiFi in the sky Slow, costly and short: the life of Connexion, Boeing’s foray into in-flight ‘net access. Serving very few flyers since 2001, Connexion didn’t have much of a fighting chance, says Ars Technica. It was not marketed effectively, nor adopted widely by airlines, so Boeing’s putting the kabosh on it. Hopefully they’ll stick to what they do best - making airplanes - and leave the ISP work to the pros.
Because you demanded it! Wait…the opposite! If we asked you to name all the genres of music you wouldn’t want to play while sending your bundle of joy off to dreamland, we bet ‘grunge’ ranks pretty high on the list. Which entirely fails to explain Rockabye Baby!, featuring lullaby covers of songs by the likes of Nirvana and the Smashing Pumpkins. Aw, maybe we’re being too harsh; after all, Boing Boing says it’s “much more promising than most of the lullaby cover schlock out there today!” Uhhh…you talked us into it?

I think the studio hired fmnmedia.com to create the buzz online. I think it’s brilliant. I mean, how else could so many people even know enough about the movie to talk about it, before it was released. Brilliant!!
