Move over, regular radio! Google might be testing ads on terrestrial radios in the Motown area, but now they’ve reportedly just inked a deal that’ll put their ads on radio of the outer-space variety.
Barry Schwartz points to a Reuters story that says Google’s has a partnership with XM Satellite Radio Holdings, Inc. “to allow the search engine’s advertisers to automatically insert ads on the radio company’s nonmusic channels.”
Google’s satellite radio venture will use the same dMarc technology as their earthbound radio ad insertion. XM reaches more than 7 million subscribers, though it’s unclear how many of their listening hours are spent tuned to talk, sports, traffic and other “nonmusic” programming.
According to Reuters, Google plans to have dMarc integrated into AdWords sometime in Q4, when all advertisers will reportedly have access to both traditional and satellite radio markets for ad placement. We wonder what effect this deal will have on the simmering satellite dogfight between XM and rival Sirius.
