Here are some quick hits from the today’s headlines:
- YouTube aquisition paid for itself: GigaOm has an analysis of Google’s market capitalization since the deal.
- Direct Uploads from Your Video Camera: Pure Digital, a handheld point-and-shoot camcorder maker, announced its plans to integrate direct uploading from camcorders to Google Video and Grouper.
- Facebook Killed the Video Star: Internet Retailer reports that people using social networks on a daily basis are less likely to pay attention to traditional media, like newspapers and television.
- Secret Service Stalks Teen on Myspace: According to the Register, the Secret Service has been stalking a 14 year old girl who was organizing students in Myspace to protest the war in Iraq. They apparently showed up at her house, yelled at her unnecessarily, threatened her with juvie, and promised to return for her parents.
- News On Location: CBS News has a new KML subscription (like XML) that works within Google Earth. Story headlines show up on their geographic location.
- Virtual News Room: Reuters opened a “virtual news bureau” in Second Life, where real-life news will be broadcast to 2nd-life users. Meanwhile, 2nd Life news will be available for real-life users, on the Reuters website at: http://secondlife.reuters.com/.
