The Google Inside Adsense Blog has a post about a new test run for video ads on AdSense. “Over the next few weeks we’ll be testing AdSense video distribution and sponsorship… We’ll be grouping together video content from providers such as Warner Music and Sony BMG together with quality ads and offering them as playlists which publishers can select from and display on their AdSense sites.”
Google ran a similar trial with MTV content last year, which evidently produced pleasing results. According to David Eun, Google VP of Content Partnerships, the ads produced CTRs that “were much higher than we thought it would be.” It’s not surprising that their initial tests went well - video ads notoriously converts better than text and banner ads.
