According to the Google Webmaster blog, Google has tweaked its algorithm to finally get rid of their notorious Googlebombs. Previously, a search for “Miserable Failure” brought up President of the United States - George W. Bush as the #1 result, and MichaelMoore.com as number two. Today, however, the only remnants of this delightful prank are stories reporting its occurrence.
This isn’t a plug for G.W. so much as it is Google updating an obvious algorithm flaw. As Danny Sullivan wrote earlier, “This Google Bombing was done by at most a few hundred links pointing at the biography, if that many.” Naturally, Google doesn’t reveal any details about the fix, except to say that it was 100% algorithmic.
