Despite glowing reports on workplace environment and employee benefits, apparently not everyone fits in at Google. According to Mediapost, dMarc founders Chad and Ryan Steelberg are quitting, because of a disagreement over Google’s approach to radio ad sales. The founders believe that their ad model requires a “human touch”, whereas Google believes in an automate sales process.
DMarc is a radio ad firm that was acquired by Google last year for $102 Million in cash, with the promise of further goal-based payouts up to $1.13 billion. Thus far, Google’s radio ad network has failed to meet sales goals (though a deal with CBS for $1 billion in ad inventory is still imminent), which is probably the source of tension over differing ad sales methods. Despite the Steelbergs’ departure, Google intends to continue their radio ad tests.
