Today Yahoo released the Answers Network Beta, “a new feature that allows you to build a network of contacts within the Answers community.” With 90 million users, the update makes Answers larger than Facebook, Cyworld, and even Myspace. As Search Engine Journal writes,
“In the tradition of other Yahoo social properties…The Yahoo! Answers Network Beta is working to enhance the overall user experience by helping people connect to the information they care about most through others with similar interests…
“Imagine what will happen when Yahoo connects all of [its social] properties…Yahoo will become the most organized and easy to use social network on the web.”
I’m not sure Yahoo that has total network integration on the horizon for 2007, but Yahoo’s FAQ on the Answers Network hints at the future:
“We are working on increasing the capability of choosing who you are sharing Q&A with in your personal network – including being able to block and ignore users, and greater control over the visibility of contacts and fans. In addition, we are also looking into adding the ability to import contacts from places like Yahoo! Messenger.”
