Google Adds Clear Channel Radio to Audio Ad Inventory

Google and Clear Channel Radio today announced a multi-year agreement to run Google Audio Ads on a portion of Clear Channel’s inventory. Similar to Google’s recent Dish Network deal, Google will sell audio ads targeted by time, audience and geography through an online auction platform. Clear Channel is the nations largest ratio station group, and will give Google access to more than 675 of their network stations.

The deal has significant implications for both companies in light of other recent events. Clear Channel is currently in the midst of finagling a $26 billion+ buyout, and will raise its bid price as a result of the Google deal. Google, in the meantime, purchased Doubleclick two days ago - the largest online display advertising distributor. Two weeks ago, DoubleClick announced their intentions to build an online ad auction exchange, like that of Right Media. Between DoubleClick and Clear Channel, Google’s aggressive expansion of its cross-media ad inventory suggests that a universal platform for auction-based ad buying isn’t far away.
