Today Microsoft launched Windows Live Hotmail, an improved version of MSN Hotmail that will “deliver a safer, more powerful and productive e-mail experience.” Launching globally in 36 languages, Windows Live Hotmail can be linked to Outlook, its mobile version, or a free web-accessible desktop download of Windows Live Hotmail. The new Hotmail has been re-designed to resemble Outlook’s UI and will offer personalization features (choice of color, backgrounds, etc).
This is Hotmail’s biggest upgrade since its initial launch in 1996. Windows Live Hotmail is a part of Microsoft’s overall strategy to gain users by cross-linking applications between the browser, desktop and mobile phone.
