Yesterday AOL launched into beta its personalization suite myAOL, made up of three services that allows users to customize and organize their online content, reports TechCrunch.
Frank Gruber, Product Manager of myAOL, gives a detailed rundown of myAOL’s new features:
- myPage is a customizable start page featuring widgets, AOL content (Truveo Video Search, AOL Mail, TMZ.com, etc.) and other third-party applications, like eBay, Netflix and YouTube.
- Mgnet is a “visual content discovery and recommendations engine.” Users can search for news and info via image clouds that Mgnet pulls up based on the user’s likes and dislikes.
- Favorites is essentially a feed reader and bookmarking tool. A “Mix & Share” option lets users create a feed mashup to share with other users via e-mail or AIM.
MyAOL not a particularly groundbreaking move, but as Webware.com points out, what myAOL lacks in originality, it makes up for in execution. AOL still serves as a stepping stone for the less tech savvy, and myAOL looks to be a great, no-frills introduction to the “basics of Web 2.0″ for the casual Internet user.
