Another week went by with the world on edge – what will SearchViews pick as their weekly roundup articles? By extension, what will be the search industry chatter in the boardrooms, bedrooms and emergency rooms across the nation? Well, wait no more – daddy’s got your fix of the sweet stuff right here – to the ticker!
Gates – He’s Pulling One Last Job and This Time it’s Personal
So you thought that ex-Microsoft Chieftain Bill Gates had retired to jet around the world with Warren Buffett and Bono helping the needy like a filthy rich version of the Superfriends? Turns out that he’s had his own secret lab deep inside Microsoft and he’s working on search. You’ve gone and pissed off the wrong company, Google!
No Google For You
For those who can’t wait for Bill gates to synthesize his secret Google-killing formula you can do a perverse halfway measure by eliminating Google properties from their own search results with Google minus Google. Other than searches that are likely to bring up YouTube stuff I found very little difference in search results, which makes the people who complain that Google is favoring their own properties in search results seem a mite like paranoid cranks. It’s also not nearly as much existentialist fun as Garfield Minus Garfield.
LOLcats Iz Expanding on Yer Internetz
Hard to believe but an empire is being built on the backs of pictures of cute cats with fractured English captions. Pet Holdings which paid $2 million dollars (!) for ICanHasCheezburger last year has added EngrishisFunny to their, uh, stable of sites which also includes Failblog.
Parents – Monitor Your Kids Social Media Use! Wacko Jacko Looking to Score on Facebook…
Thanks to Lindsay for this tip – way to leave on a high note! Any device that brings Michael Jackson and kids closer, even virtually, is probably not such a hot idea. The onetime King of Pop is celebrating the launch of a new album by the same name with a “dance” widget on several social media platforms. Sez the article, ”The overall top five scorers from each social network will then move on to a secret extra level.” That secret extra level business may have worked on at least one of the two Coreys… how many youngsters need to get widgetized by the man before someone takes action?
