We’ve been beating the drum for a while now about the concept of real time search, especially as Search 3.0 ushers in more real time interactions like twittering which find their way into traditional search engine results and drive traffic to non-social media sites. The one place that continues to lag woefully behind this movement is web analytics.Using typical analytics tools to determine what’s happening on your website or blog in real time is like driving down the street while only using your rear-view mirrors to see. 9 out of 10 times you’ll hit that neighbor kid on a skateboard. And they’re usually on the sidewalk. I know - I’ve tried it.The only way to prevent the online equivalent of vehicular manslaughter is to have some kind of real time analytics that can tell you what’s happening on your website at any given moment. How many people are there, what stories are they looking at, and most importantly what’s the load time? Nothing kills that hot expose on Guy Kawasaki like your site crashing from too much traffic.A new analytics tool called Chartbeat is available now and aims to do all that and more, providing all kinds of juicy real time website info wrapped up in a nifty dashboard. You can even see an actual real time demo of how it works with Fred Wilson’s blog.Instead of trying to figure out what’s happening with stale data, Chartbeat gives you fresh info, as well as allowing you to look at historical data as it happened. This allows users to discern patterns that might not be apparent when looking at already aggregated data.Reprise Media’s Managing Partner Peter Hershberg will be at Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco tomorrow (Friday April 3rd) talking about and demonstrating Chartbeat during his keynote address: “High Order Bit: Chartbeat” which is scheduled for 10:15 AM.Though the title I favored, “Chartbeat – It’s a Lovebeat” isn’t being used, you can expect Pete to bring some Search 3.0 to the Web 2.0 crowd for a total of 5.0 hit points of insight and data.

I looked at the Chartbeat site. Really Impressive. Do you know if it possible to record behavior and watch it at a later time?
Is it possible to set filters or triggers on certain parameters?
